FreakAuth roadmap

Well guys, here we finally go with the news section I promised long time ago!

In this first post I'll summarize a bit the story of our authentication and basic ACL library for Code Igniter: FreakAuth!

Everything started on the 31st of January 2007 with the first release of FreakAuth_light 1.0-alpha, that I developed alone.

Since then, after 7 releases in less than 4 months (more than 3200 downloads), I can say that with FreakAuth_light (FAL) 1.0.4 we reached a pretty good and stable library!

The developing team has grown, and now Christophe (grahack) and Parnell (Iksander) jumped on board sharing their time and skills! Plus, needless to say, the CI community gave a great contribution helping us to debugg, improve functionalities etc.

Let's look ahead and speak a bit about the roadmap from now!

First we will quickly release a 1.0.5 version (expected this week) in order to:

Version 1.1.0 will introduce:

  • a FAL_back library a bit like the FAL_front library in order to make it easier to plug the FAL users admin console into yor custom backend design
  • we will also try to include custom userprofile functionality for registration (you will be able to choose additional required fields for registration apart from username, password and e-mail)
  • "remember me" addon for the login

Version 1.2.0 will give you the chance to choose whether to use the username or the user e-mail for logging in!

These will be the highlight of future releases (I'm sure I've forgotten something;o) )!

Stay tuned then and carry on supporting the FreakAuth project (donations - see the big donation orange box on the right - are always welcome).

Dan
